What's happens after our meeting ...... ?

My most recent weddings

Once you are convinced after our meeting that you would like me to be your official wedding photographer, I need just a £250.00 deposit to secure your date. I attend just one wedding on your date, so there's nothing to worry about.
I also DON'T sub-contract my weddings to other photographers. When you book me, it's Dirk van der Werff who will share your day!

If for reasons of numbers, or multiple locations, I feel the need for two photographers, then I will let you know the additional cost. The photographer will be a professional, originally trained by me and who has their own business as a wedding photographer, so I can trust them, and so can you. This will be a rare occurance, as I prefer to work on my own with no assistant as I can blend in better with your guests and liase with you personally.
Once I'm booked to cover your wedding, please feel free to ask me questions about ANYTHING to do with your wedding. Afterall, I have been to more weddings than most people and can advise on all sorts of options and scenarios - happy to help!
I'm also happy to help you if you DON'T choose me as your wedding photographer. REALLY.
I would rather you were pointed in the right direction and secured a wedding photographer that I recommend rather than a poor photographer.
I know most wedding photographers in the north of England ans some are better for some types of weddings or locations than orthers, so I really can advise if you wish. I'd rather you got the right photographer!

What if I'm still not sure?

This sometimes happens if you are not sure what you want from your wedding photography.
Choosing a photographer and deciding on a budget to set aside is difficult, but if you want a full time professional photographer, with high quality images, great customer service and with whom you can build a relationship to feel comfortable on the day then it is unlikely to cost you less than £900+ if he or she is any good.
It could be less if it is a small wedding or if you want only a few hours coverage, but most brides today want their day documenting from beginning to end - and that often means 8-12 hours coverage. Imagine what a plumber would charge for his services for that long .. so if a professional photographer is involved there is likely to be a charge of £40 per hour minimum. Once you add in the cost of meetings, mileage and travel and pre-wedding portraits and suchlike, the costs soon add up.
Add to that a 4-6 hour edit of the digital files that come from the camera, plus a wedding website, maybe 300-400 proof prints or a proof book for you to choose your favourite album photographs from and the cost is easily achieved.
If you are not able to set aside a minimum budget of £900+ , then your options are limited.
You MIGHT find a friend or a student or a part-time wedding photographer (he's a butcher or a plasterer during the week ...) and they MIGHT do a good job, but is MIGHT good enough for the biggest day of your life?
All that emotional and financial investment in your day, with the possibility that the photographs may be poor, or may not turn out. It happens unfortunately, because I meet the 'victims' all the time at wedding fairs.

"I wish we had used a professional photographer at our wedding"

"We spent £20,000 on our wedding an my Uncle Brian did the photographs and I cried because they are rubbish"

"My mate said he would do our wedding photographs as a present, cause he goes to photography nightclasses. That was 3 months ago, do you think we will see them?"

Heard them all, many times. If you have the means to set aside budget for wedding photography, then do so, and also set aside budget for a good wedding album too - so you can show everyone where the budget for your wedding went - and be proud that the photography shows it!
A flippy floppy set of prints and a CD ISN'T your wedding.
