TESTIMONIAL: KELSEY CLARK-DAVIES

Russell and I had a whole year to plan our fairytale wedding at The Crab and Lobster at Asenby, near Topcliffe and Thirsk in North Yorkshire.When it came to booking a wedding photographer we knew exactly what it was we were looking for. We wanted contemporary, candid and reportage style wedding photographs. We wanted a wedding photographer who would capture the real essence of the day, tell the story in pictures. We wanted lots of classy black and white natural looking shots... and we knew we didn’t want to spend hours standing around and posing!

I stumbled across Dirk’s wedding website while trawling the internet one evening. I loved the feel of the website, the wedding photographs were professional, good quality and contemporary, while the prose was natural, warm and friendly. I emailed Dirk and he quickly responded. We were soon having an email dialogue, and Russell and I arranged a trip up from London to the north east to meet with him.

By then, we had met with a few different photographers, none who really stood out and shone. The day Dirk came to my parents’ house, he had the 'pleasure' of not only meeting me, but my mum and mum-in-law too – and he managed to charm us all! We all quickly warmed to his natural, easy going approach – there was no hard sell – and we were very impressed with his work. There was no question, Dirk was to be our photographer.

As the wedding grew nearer, Dirk continued to be a real pleasure to deal with. He was professional yet friendly, and it genuinely felt that he wanted to help us have the best day of our lives.

On the morning of the wedding we woke with a forecast of snow and were all somewhat concerned about the journey down to North Yorkshire to the church. But Dirk had arrived at our church and venue really early, and I remember receiving a reassuring text from him early on the morning saying the sun was shining gloriously there......

Throughout the day of our wedding, I have to say, we could not have asked for anything more from Dirk. He was completely unobtrusive, yet was there to capture every moment. He was sensitive and intuitive to our needs (he made himself scarce when I had a brief 'Bridezilla' moment !) and was thoroughly charming with all of our guests. Dirk was like another guest at our wedding, and I have to say, it was a pleasure to have him there.

The most amazing photographs captured have to be as we arrived at our reception venue. Our jazz musicians were playing and our guests were dancing outside so imagine our amazement when, as we stepped out of our wedding car, the snow began to swirl from the sky. It truly was a fairy tale moment, and Dirk captured it all.

We flew off on honeymoon the following day, but were able to view our photographs from a beachside café in the Maldives! They were stunning, I sobbed as they brought back all the magic of our beautiful day.

We now have a home adorned with fabulous photographs from our wedding, as well as gorgeous contemporary album. We cannot recommend Dirk highly enough – he’s a star! Kelsey Clark-Davies
