Green Day were among the early winners at the 2005 Grammy music Awards ceremony in USA. Just days after their gig captured at Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena by Dirk van der Werff, the band's American Idiot took the prize for rock album of the year, marking the first time in 11 years that the trio has taken a Grammy. Bassist, Mike Dirnt, thanked "everyone on radio that still plays rock and roll."
"Rock and roll can be dangerous and fun at the same time, so thanks a lot," said the group's lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong.

Green Day are as hot as hell in 2005 and are completing tours of Europe and the USA on the back of their massive success with American Idiot.
As usual with music gigs, the photographer gets one, two or three songs to capture the photographs - so you have to make sure that everything is ready to go from the moment the music starts. With Green Day, for some reason I was given 9 minutes, and I wasn't sure if that was for one and a half songs or one song or five .... weird!
With stage lighting coming from every angle, judging the light levels automatically with the camera is a bit of a joke really.
Experience as a photographer and a lot of guess work helps, and on digital a quick check of the image on the back of the camera is a definite plus!

So, after nine minutes I was ceremoniously escorted from the gig (no you don't get asked to watch the rest for those freeloaders among you...) off to the office to edit the images and send them out to clients.
